The temple, at a height of 3,583 m (11,755 ft), 223 km (139 mi) from Rishikesh, on the shores of Mandakini river, a tributary of Ganga, is a stone edifice of unknown date.[8] It is not certain who built the original Kedarnath temple and when. The name “Kedarnath” means “the lord of the field”: it derives from the Sanskrit words kedara (“field”) and natha (“lord”). The text Kashi

Kedara Mahatmya states that it is so called because “the crop of liberation” grows here. Many folk legends related to the Garhwal region, Lord Shiva and the creation of the Panch Kedar temples are narrated. After completing the pilgrimage of Lord Shiva’s darshan at the Panch Kedar Temples, it is an unwritten religious rite to visit Lord Vishnu at the Badrinath Temple, as a final affirmatory proof by the devotee that he has sought blessings of Lord Shiva.

Things to Carry

Light Baggage During the Kedarnath, Temple trek is most important that you should not carry extra stuff with you. You should keep the minimum things which are required during a Kedarnath Temple Trek. Warm Clothes In the Kedarnath temple, the weather is very cold all the time. Even in summer as well. You might experience snowfall there, so it’s very important you carry your winter clothes Jackets, etc with you which cover you from toe to head. Medicines As we know that the Kedarnath temple is placed at an altitude of 3587 meters above sea level. Catching a cold and fever chances are very high. It would be beneficial for you to carry certain important medicines with you for your cold and fever. You can carry some extra medicine for your stomach and vomiting. Which would help you during the Kedarnath Temple trek and it would prevent you from unnecessary dependence upon some other person. Good Snow Hiking Boots During the Trek towards Kedarnath Temple, we would prefer you to carry good trekking boots because you must walk around 18 km and it would take to you 9 hours to get there. You can easily walk during snowfall with such kinds of boots. It would be a good investment if you are a regular trekker. Packed Food We would like to refer you to carry some packed foods as per your preference. You can consider lightweight food which keeps you warm from the inside and gives you energy. As you must walk around 18 Km during the Kedarnath temple trek. You can carry some dry fruits, chocolates, biscuits, etc. Water Bottle Water is something that is very essential, so you need to carry a bottle that would keep you hydrated. We would like to refer you to carry a hot water bottle. Which would keep you warm and help you with the downfall of temperature. Umbrella During the Kedarnath Temple trek, you can carry an umbrella which is most important for trekking. Some months of the year have very heavy rainfall so it’s a must to carry an umbrella with you. Jio Sim Card Jio Network is the best Network around the Kedarnath Temple. Jio Network will provide you with the best network while trekking at Kedarnath Temple. There is another network as well, but they are not working well over there. We would prefer carrying extra batteries, a power bank, earphones, etc.
